Paula Bernstein PhD, MD

Menopause and Hormone Replacement

Your Menopause Consultation

Your consultation will be scheduled for an hour so that you have more than enough time to ask all your questions and have them answered in detail.

Dr. Bernstein will take a detailed menopause and medical history, including lifestyle issues.

She will review your blood tests, your mammogram, your bone density and any pertinent gynecologic issues.

She will explain the results of the Women's Health Initiative Study and other medical literature on hormone replacement therapy, assessing the risks as we currently understand them.

Based on your individual medical situation, she will give you her analysis of the risks and benefits of hormone therapy as they apply to you so that you can make your own, informed decision.

If you decide not to use hormone therapy, she will work with you, in conjunction with your own gynecologist and internist, to manage any troubling symptoms with alternate methods.

If you wish to try hormone replacement, she will explain all of the different kinds that are available to help you to choose the preparation that is likely to work best for you.

Because dose and delivery method often needs to be fine tuned, based on your response, she will see you again in four to six weeks for a follow up appointment to assess your therapy and make any necessary changes.

She will contact your personal physicians to make sure that everyone who cares for you is informed of your management choices.
